Ask Your Question

What is the name of the insurance Company underwriting the coverage?

Century Surety Insurance Company underwrites the General Liability coverage.

Do I need to be a member of PSI to purchase a liability policy or dishonesty bond?

Yes, the liability policies and bonds on this site are offered at discounted rates to active members of PSI only. If you are not an active member of PSI your policy will become null and void, and you would need to re-apply for membership for coverage to be reinstated.

What is Care, Custody or Control?

Most general liability policies EXCLUDE coverage for damage to personal property in your care, custody or control. This means that ANY personal property, including a pet, that is physically within your care, custody or control, is excluded from coverage should that property be damaged or destroyed due to your negligence. The CCC is a mandatory coverage under the PSI Liability policy. The limit you choose will determine the amount of coverage you have for client's personal property and pets while in your care, custody or control. Please note that although the minimum option is for $10,000, this may not be enough to pay for vet medical expenses and or property in your care, custody or control.

What liability limits are available under this policy?

$1,000,0000 per occurrence with a $2,000,000 aggregate. This is the only general liability limit available. Lower limits are not available because coverage is provided on a group policy for all active PSI members. Sublimits for Care, Custody or Control (coverage for pets and property in your care) range from $10,000 to $200,000.

Do your policies cover "Pet Taxi" services (transporting pets in my personal vehicle) and if so, what exactly is covered?

Yes. The policy will extend to cover pets in your care, custody or control while in a vehicle or anywhere you go with client's pets other than your personal residence. We also will cover pets that you care for in your residence if you choose the "In Your Home Pet Care" Endorsement option. Please note you are responsible for obtaining all licenses and permits required to operate, provide, or offer the services of a pet daycare, boarding facility, or kennel out of your personal residence.

Do I need a separate policy from the liability policy to protect me if I suffer bodily injury while pet sitting?

Yes, injuries to you, your employees or Independent Contractors are excluded under the PSI liability policies. You would need to purchase workers compensation coverage to cover these types of injuries. Examples of injuries include: dog/animal bites, slip and falls, etc.

What is the difference between the PSI Individual Liability Policy and the PSI Standard Liability Policy?

The PSI Individual policy is for businesses classified as a sole proprietorship. This policy is designed to insure an individual with no one working in the business but the individual owner and spouse, if applicable.

The PSI Standard policy is for all other businesses outside of sole proprietors/individuals. It covers Partnerships, Limited Liability Companies (LLCs), Corporations or S-Corporations and provides coverage for business owner, employees and Independent Contractors.

The primary difference is that the PSI Standard policy is designed to cover employees and Independent Contractors, while the PSI Individual policy does not.

What does the Pet Food/Treats Distributors & Manufacturers optional endorsement cover?

This endorsement provides product liability coverage for pet food/treats you make, manufacture, or distribute for others. A supplemental application is required, including a list of all ingredients and where you sell or distribute your products.

What does the Non-Owned Auto Insurance optional endorsement cover?

Non-Owned Auto Insurance covers Bodily Injury and Property Damage caused by non-owned vehicles (ex. employee- or independent contractor-owned or leased vehicle(s) driving on behalf of your business).

What is Dishonesty Bond coverage?

Dishonesty Bond coverage protects you and your customers from loss as a result of theft committed by you or your employees. It includes these features:

• The definition of employee includes all owners and officers, full and-part time employees, independent contractors, and volunteers.

• You are covered up to the policy limit of liability for each loss occurrence. There is no aggregate limit of liability.

The bond will apply only after establishment of proof that the accused party has, in fact, committed a criminal act. After payment of the claim to the client up to the limit of the bond, the insurance company will seek restitution from the guilty party. To say to a client that you are bonded demonstrates the confidence you have in your company and your staff. Many business owners who have no staff also purchase a bond because the credential assists the client in feeling more comfortable allowing the trainer in their home to provide care for the pets.
